It's the end of January, overcast and chilly for us here in South Central Texas. 🌿
And that means it is time to think about pruning our roses. 💐💐
It is something I have always been challenged by.
The thought of removing parts of my well-loved plants in the Hopes????? 🪻of a greater harvest.
My mother would attack her bushes and I would think she was crazy. 😆
How can you decimate such a big bush? 🤯
It has always seemed an oxymoron to me "to remove to improve" 🫢but even in Scripture it calls us to prune so that the good growth will be abundant.
John 15:2 says that every branch in me that does not bear fruit he takes away, and every branch that does bear fruit he prunes, it may bear more fruit. (ESV). 🌿💐
But the pruning must be done correctly so that what will occur is 🙌healthy growth for not only more flowers but a stronger plant.
So, 💐as I anticipate my spring and summer ahead of beautiful roses first must come the pruning.
Here are a couple of resources to help those of us who are timid. How to prune rose bushes below:
So sharpen those pruners and get out there and prune (cut back) away and look forward to a season of healthy abundant roses.
Looking forward to spring,
